Gorillapod SLR Review (Video)

Let me know your thoughts about the video and about your experience using the Gorillapod SLR. I had a blast making this video and decided to add some humor for good measure. The video above was shot with a Canon PowerShot G9

You can purchase the exact same Joby Gorillapod SLR flexible tripod I reviewed in the video, from Amazon. Joby also makes Gorillapod SLR-Zoom which seems to be a stronger version. Check them out.

Bruised and Slightly Battered

Today’s DIY light modifier video post is postponed. Why, you might ask. I had a minor mountain biking accident. I fall and go boom! Over the bars and landed on my right shoulder and sprained my middle finger on my left hand. It wasn’t even on a difficult section of the trail (Lumpy’s Epic – Pemberton, BC) I just lost my concentration for split second and that was enough to cause my crash. (Note to self – don’t crash!)

I need to rest up for a shoot I’m doing tomorrow night for one of my best clients. So I’m off to ice my shoulder and my finger. I’ll try to post something about the shoot and the light modifier shortly.

This post was so much fun to type with just one hand and not using my middle finger :o )

30 Days Using Aperture 2 (Final Review)

The video post above is the final post in the series “30 Days Using Aperture 2″ (video shot with a Canon PowerShot G9 )

Here is a brief rundown;

Likes

  • Output – excellent quality as good as other RAW converters
  • Short cut keys – very easy to learn and remember
  • Full screen mode – (My Favorite) I loved being able to work on my images in full screen mode and not having the OS or software to distract me from my images
  • Fast work flow – I was amazed how quickly I could edit my images to the final selects and burn a CD for the client
  • Lift and stamp tool – able to lift adjustments from one image and stamp them to other images, while having the ability to select or deselect which adjustments you want to apply to the following images
  • Comparison mode – able to compare 2 or more images on the screen at the same time made to select the best image

Dislikes

  • Interface – this took a while to figure out, but I eventually started to get a hang of it
  • Steep learning curve – this might have been my specific problem due to taking a while to figure out the interface
  • Sharpening – I couldn’t understand why there were 3 different sharpening options, when edge sharpen was the recommended method by Apple and most users
  • Tutorials/manuals – trial version came with virtually no manuals or tutorials. If they were part of the download users might get the hang of things quicker and not get frustrated and maybe give up using Aperture

Conclusion

  • Try it out for yourself – you owe it to yourself to give Aperture 2 a try… It’s Free! And could be exactly what you’re looking for
  • Would I buy it? Yes! My copy is on it’s way.

Finally, with Apple announcing Aperture 2.1 with 3rd party plug-in support Aperture could become a very powerful piece of RAW image editing software. Only time will tell.

Welcome To Our New Home

I’m glad you found us.

Please sign up for our RSS feed so you can stay updated of new posts. I have few surprises and ideas coming for the blog that you won’t want to miss.

This is not an April fools day joke

That’s it… I quit! I’m no longer going to be doing this blog… Just kidding.

Seriously, though. I started this blog to share my ideas, thoughts and experiences, and to have some fun. And I’m doing that. What I wasn’t expecting was getting as many visitors as I’m getting. And, even more surprising is the traffic I’m getting from Google™. The search for “Making your own gray card” accounts for almost 65% of all my traffic from Google™ and searching for “beauty dish” on Google™ my post Make Your Own Beauty Dish comes up on the 4th page. The traffic isn’t anything close to what David gets at Stobist but it’s decent.

My idea was to eventually switch the blog over to my site www.imageguy.com and move the sales page for my gray cards to an internal page. My thinking for doing this so soon, is if I wait too long to switch the blog to imageguy.com I might not be able to regain the Google rankings once the posts are moved over. So, my plan is simple. I’m going to install Wordpress on imageguy.com. Make the blog look pretty, move all my old posts over and start blogging on the new site. Simple! Right? We’ll see!

If anyone has any experience with Wordpress or has done something like this before PLEEAASE give me any advice or help you can in the comments. I want to do this as quickly as possible, and having no experience with something like this I don’t know how long it will take.
