Quick Look – Canon SD1400 IS (Review)

The Canon SD1400 IS is a very simple camera to use. The getting started manual is only 35 pages and has all the information you need to start using the camera. It’s small size allows it to fit into a pocket very easily. and take with you everywhere. This is the camera that I take with me everywhere I go (skiing, hiking, biking, etc). It doesn’t have any fancy features, but it gets the job done. The pictures are good straight out of the camera (JPEG only) and the HD video quality is quite good.

The Specs:

14.1 Megapixel
4X zoom 5-20mm (35mm equivalent of 28-112mm zoom)
Image Stabilization
Digic 4 Processor
2.7” diagonal LCD display
HD Video 720P 30fps

Small size
Shoots HD video
Easy to use

Access cover to HDMI and Mini USB ports poorly designed
Camera finish is slippery in your hand

This is a great little camera for someone who wants to just shoot pictures or video without having to worry too much about different settings. Be careful when opening the cover to the HDMI and USB ports. The design makes it hard to get the cover completely out of the way to plug in the cables. It feels like it will snap off quite easily. The SD1400 IS feels like it will slip out of your hand very easily. The textured finish makes it difficult to get a good grip on the camera. Be careful not to drop it.

Below is a quick video showing the camera’s video and still image quality.
